Fighters Only World MMA Awards set to take over the Hard Rock
The Fighters Only World Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Awards will take place in an Oscars-style ceremony on December 30th 2009 at the Joint at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas. This historical event in the sport of MMA is organized by Fighters Only magazine, the world’s leading MMA and Lifestyle publication, and is the first of its kind within the sport. A press conference will be held at the Joint at the Hard Rock today (Thursday 9th July) at 5pm to announce the launch of the event.
Created with the purpose of recognizing and celebrating the achievements of the people involved in making MMA so great, the Fighters Only World MMA Awards is an annual event currently in its second year. Last year fans from all over the world voted Anderson Silva 2008 Fighter of the Year and the UFC as 2008 Promotion of the Year. This year’s event, which will have an audience packed with a who’s who of the MMA world, will be another industry first for the pioneering company who were the first publisher worldwide to produce a monthly MMA and lifestyle publication.
Fighters Only Managing Director Rob Hewitt:
“Like other mainstream industries such as film and music, MMA is now at a stage where it deserves an annual industry award that fighters and executives can look forward to and aspire to win. The fact that the awards are voted for by the public really means something to the winners too. We wanted to give the fans a voice in the industry as well as educate people new to MMA as to who the sports leaders are.”

A very limited number of tickets will be released for sale to the public later this Fall. All awards are nominated and voted on by the fans. Open nominations are now being accepted and the finalists for each award will be announced on October 5th. Fans will then have until 5th December to vote for their winners. Winners will be announced exclusively at the event which will be broadcast internationally in January. More details to come soon!
